Minefields and Miniskirts
Off The Leash Theatre Company is proud to present Siobhan McHugh's Minefields and Miniskirts, running from the 25th to the 29th of April 2018 at The Old Drouin Butter Factory.
As Australia approaches the centenary of the First World War Armistice, a significant date when the world optimistically claimed the victory to be for “the war to end all wars”, there is great poignancy in this female view of only one of the wars that have followed. This is the flip side of the coin. It's the sheilas' turn to tell the stories of Australia's longest and most unpopular war.
Nearly a thousand Australian women had a part in the Vietnam War as entertainers, typists, consular staff and army nurses. Their lives were changed forever - for many of them it was the most vital and alive they have ever felt.
Minefields and Miniskirts records the voices of those who were actually there; ordinary woman revealing how they survived a war and discovered what they believed in. Adapted from Siobhan McHugh's book, this play reveals, through a collage of true stories, the extraordinary experiences of ordinary women in surviving a war.
Minefields and Miniskirts will play a strictly limited season at The Old Drouin Butter Factory from the 25-29 April 2018.
