THE LARAMIE PROJECT

ArtLaramie1.gif

In October 1998 Matthew Shepard was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. Tectonic Theatre Project went to Laramie and conducted more than 200 interviews with people of the town after Matthew’s brutal murder. From these interviews they wrote the play The Laramie Project.

This powerful piece of theatre that looks at the impact and fallout crime has on a rural town in the aftermath of the brutal bashing and ultimate death of a young gay. Based on the true events, this is a story that divided a nation and eventually changed the hate crime laws in America.
